Individual Student Behavior ~ Clip Chart
Student choices are tracked on a “clip chart”. All students begin the day on green in the middle of the chart. Clothespins are moved up or down depending on choices. Clips that are moved down may be moved back up if the teacher sees the student making improved choices. In addition, once a clip is moved up, it may be moved down. All clothespins are moved back to green the following morning in order for the child to start over.
Ex Clip Chart:
Outstanding – This choice is at the top of the clip chart and is for outstanding behavior. This level is reserved for extraordinary behavior, and will not be given out loosely. I want this to remain special; please do not expect your child to reach this level daily. Students will be rewarded by being allowed to visit the treasure chest when this level is achieved. {Pink Dot on discipline calendar}
Super Choices – This choice is almost at the top of the clip chart and is for super behavior. This level is reserved for students who continue to make super choices throughout the day by trying their best and showing great character. Please congratulate your child when they reach this level! This is a super level to end the day on and the students will receive a sticker as a reward. {Purple Dot on discipline calendar}
Great Job – This choice is for great behavior. This level is reserved for students who do a great job by trying their best and showing good character at any moment during the day. Please congratulate your child when they reach this level! This is a great level to end the day on and the students will be verbally praised as a reward. {Blue Dot on discipline calendar}
Ready to Learn – This choice is in the middle of the chart and is where the students will begin the day on by being ready to learn. They will move up and down during the day depending on the choices they make. This is an acceptable level to stay on. They did not get in trouble; it just means that they did not go “above and beyond”. {Green Dot on discipline calendar}
Slow Down – This choice is a reminder that the student needs to follow the classroom rules. This serves as a first warning and the student needs to slow down and must change the behavior immediately. {Yellow Dot on discipline folder}
Think About It – This choice is for students who need a second warning. If they move their clip to think about it, then they will sit at the “thinking spot” in the classroom and reflect on their choice by thinking about it. This color also results in silent lunch and loss of Fun Friday time. {Orange Dot on discipline calendar}
Parent Contact – This choice is at the bottom of the clip chart and means that the student received three warnings. If they move their clip to parent contact, then the teacher will contact the parents via email, note or phone call. The student will also have silent lunch and lose Fun Friday privileges as well as other special privileges at the teachers discretion. {Red Dot on discipline calendar}
*If the student’s behavior goes beyond parent contact, a phone call will be made to the parent and/or a conference with the principal may be scheduled. Each day a colored dot will be on your child’s discipline calendar indicating what level they ended on for the day. Please sign daily and keep this calendar in your child’s folder.
